About
Gustavo Barroso was born in Teodoro Sampaio, Sao Paulo, Brazil and raised in Nashua, New Hampshire. In 2019, he earned a BFA in Industrial Design from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. He currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
Upon graduating from college, Gustavo immediately began developing his visual language within his studio art practice which can be explored here. Simultaneously, he has been consulting and producing works for various established artists, designers and brands in NYC.
Over the past 6 years of developing this practice at the intersection of art, design, and creative production, Gustavo has established himself as a driven creative force with a playful subversive voice who is able to work across various industries within the cultural moment.
Personal and client projects have been executed across streetwear, fashion runway, studio furniture, fine art, retail, web design & print.
Through this independent work, he has built an international network of world-class artists, designers and producers that he collaborates with often and can call on to client projects as needed.
Every day, new tools are emerging and Gustavo has become known for somebody who has been able to embed new technologies into his practice with a playful language that feels approachable as opposed to monolithic.
He is constantly refining and re-inventing his process to find ways of reducing the friction between ideas and reality. This integration and exploration of technology is always done while keeping human emotion and storytelling at the core of his practice.
Skills, tools and areas of expertise include storytelling, sketching, concept development, experiential & spatial design, 3D modeling, 3D rendering, material sourcing, and design for manufacturing.
